Ozark Trail  50+ Mile Hike April 3-7
We will be backpacking the Trace Creek (24 miles) and Taum Sauk (33 miles) sections of the Ozark Trail over a 5-day period.

  • Trace Creek runs from Hazel Creek Camp to Highway A at Bell Mountain; will connect with new Karkaghne trail.
  • Taum Sauk is one of the best trails in the state.  Can be divided into 15-, 12- and 6-mile subsections.  Goes through Johnson Shut-In state park.

All equipment, food, tents, and personal equipment will be carried in backpacks. Scouts and adults going on this event MUST have successfully completed  the Rimrock Trail warm-up hike in February. This is intended to help gauge your stamina and physical fitness in a less intense environment than the 50+ miles of the Ozark Trail hike.

Rimrock Trail Additional Information: February 27-29 Bus Leaves Calvary Baptist at 6 pm Fri 2/27
In addition to being a regular monthly campout, the Rimrock Trail campout/hike is designed to be a true warmup hiking event for those going on the Ozark Trail in April. The Rimrock Trail circles around Camp Naish, Bonner Springs, KS. It is of moderate difficulty, with hilly stretches, and covers 12.5 miles broken up in 5.5 mile and 7 mile segments.

This is the designated February campout for scouts and adults who are working toward their 12-month camping award. Those who are using this campout to warm up for the Ozark Trail trip will be required to hike the entirety of the Rimrock Trail with fully loaded backpacks. Those who are not going on the Ozark Trail may hike as much or as little of the Rimrock, with or without backpacks, as well as work on other camping skills if you choose not to hike.

"Good Turn for America" Scouting for Food Day Saturday, April 24, 2004

Good Turn For AmericaThe goal of the "Good Turn For America" is to encourage each Scouting unit in the Heart of America Council to participate in a service project for their local community. Scouting and community service work hand-in-hand and service projects should be incorporated into the year-round program for each Scouting unit.

On Saturday, April 24, 2004, the youth of the Heart of America Council, BSA are encouraged to complete a Scouting for Food service project. This project was selected as the council-wide project based on comments from units during the 2003 Community Service Day.

Troop 120 will meet on the previous Saturday, April 17, to distribute door hangers throughout the Odessa community, and complete the project on Saturday, April 24 when they return to the neighborhoods to pick up bags of food for distribution to local food pantries.
